Young Justice: Invasion - Let me show you my feels.

SPOILERS FOR ‘HAPPY NEW YEAR’ - SEASON 2 EPISODE 1

I think I’m finally coherent enough to make an actual post about Young Justice: Invasion. Firstmost, it was really good. I like that this first episode was very much ensemble cast - showing, but not in any real detail, many of the brilliant new characters they’re giving us this season.

I have to say, I’m a little biased, because I was a huge fan of the Young Justice comics - they were the first comics I ever read, and the characters are the first comic characters I ever really loved. So, yes, my major reaction to this episode is TIM TIM TIM TIM TIM CASSIE TIM. It feels like a reward, because although I’ve grown to love the characters that make up toon YJ, the initial disappointment of not getting to see Tim, Bart, Kon, Cassie, Secret and Arrowette kicking butt was pretty bad. Now, of course, I’m completely panicked about what could have happened to Artemis, Wally, Kaldur and Roy.

"We grow up being told that anger is bad. Good girls do not express their anger, good girls play nice, they accommodate, they please. It is time we start looking at anger differently. Why are we so bent on suppressing this anger when for so many, it is the only emotion left in the face of injustice? Why should young women appear compliant and docile when they are obviously being subjected to violence or inequity? Why shouldn’t anger be a legitimate drive for our politics? Change will not come because we ask for permission, change will happen because we leave no other alternative."

"There are the occasions that men—intellectual men, clever men, engaged men—insist on playing devil’s advocate, desirous of a debate on some aspect of feminist theory or reproductive rights or some other subject generally filed under the heading: Women’s Issues. These intellectual, clever, engaged men want to endlessly probe my argument for weaknesses, want to wrestle over details, want to argue just for fun—and they wonder, these intellectual, clever, engaged men, why my voice keeps raising and why my face is flushed and why, after an hour of fighting my corner, hot tears burn the corners of my eyes. Why do you have to take this stuff so personally? ask the intellectual, clever, and engaged men, who have never considered that the content of the abstract exercise that’s so much fun for them is the stuff of my life."

Melissa McEwan, of course, on the terrible bargain. My life as a woman, as a queer person, as a fat person, is not your thought experiment.  (via sanitywatchers)

This really struck a chord. Even my boyfriend, feminist that he is, can have this reaction when I’m in tears after an NPR story. This is my fucking life. Excuse me if I can’t remove the personal.

I reblogged this before, but I like it a lot so I’m reblogging it again.

This whole thing is the reason why confrontations with people that I consider friends always leaves me crying. Like, I get so angry and so flustered because it’s not just some stupid game to me, like it is to them. It’s something that’s real and personal.

I will always reblog this.

“When a good speaker has a sound case to present then eloquence is no great feat. Your fluent tongue promises wisdom; but the content of your speech is ignorant. Power and eloquence in a headstrong man spell folly; such a man is a peril to the state.”

- The Bacchae, Euripides

Pretty much sums up this FB argument.

All I want out of the Oscars is RDJ to announce that he can’t present an award by himself, then scream “AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!” and everyone turn up in costume.
